山梨県甲府市周辺を主な舞台に、高校のシネフォト研究部の活動を描く。「mono」というタイトルには「いろんな物」という意味が込められており、公式には「21世紀の楽しみ方4コマ」と謳われている。また、本作は同作者の漫画作品である『ゆるキャン△』と密接な関係にあり、作中では同作品（本作中では「まったりキャンプ」）の舞台を巡るエピソードや、同作品の登場人物らも登場している。 当初の掲載誌であるまんがタイムきららミラクの誌風に合わせてか、若干オカルト要素のあるエピソードも多い。
