魔力は少ないながら優れた魔法技術を持っており、わずか1年で王立学校を卒業したアレンは、王宮魔法士の試験に落第してしまう。アレンが王立学校の教授に相談したところ、「公爵家の家庭教師」の仕事を紹介される。四大公爵家のハワード公爵は、初級魔法すら使えない娘の公女ティナに魔法を使うことを諦めてもらい、将来は彼女の得意分野である「植物や作物の研究」の道に進むことを望んでおり、王立学校への入学をティナに諦めさせるようアレンに依頼する。だがアレンは、ティナが王立学校の水準を満たすだけの魔法が使えるように自分が教えることを申し出て、公女であるティナと、彼女の専属メイドにしてハワード家に仕えるウォーカー家の跡取り娘であるエリーの家庭教師となる。
