Overview

After witnessing the death of his mother and being left for dead at the hands of Count Mecha, ten-year old Tetsuro Hoshino is awakened by a mysterious woman, Maetal. In exchange for only his company, Maetal offers him the ride of his life on the Galaxy Express 999. It is said that those who travel aboard the legendary train to the end of the line can receive a free mechanical body and with it, immortality. Impoverished and alone, Tetsuro leaps at the opportunity and joins Maetal on a quest that will span the cosmos. Synopsis 日本語

鉄郎はかつて惑星メーテルを破壊したが、その後も地球での機械化人の勢いは止まらず、機械化人と生身の人間による血みどろの戦いが続いていた。栄華を誇ったメガロポリスも、もはや見る影もなく機械化人との戦いで廃墟となっている。その戦いのさなか、鉄郎宛てにメーテルの声で999への乗車を促すメッセージカードが届けられる。鉄郎が仲間たちと共にメガロポリス99番ホームに向かうと、そこには999が停車していた。銃弾飛び交う中、鉄郎は仲間たちの援護を受け再び999で旅立つ。
