Overview
Mirai, an improved Kongou-class Aegis guided missile destroyer, is one of the newest and most advanced ships in the entire Japanese Self Defense Force (SDF). Her crew, also one of the newest, is lead by Capt. Umezu Saburo and Executive Officer Kadomatsu Yosuke. While running scheduled training exercises one day, Mirai encounters a fierce storm that throws their navigation systems into temporary disarray. After a few minutes of recovery, the crew is shocked to discover that they've been transported back in time to June 4, 1942—The Battle of Midway, during World War II. Letting history take its course for this battle, they manage to avoid the conflict firsthand and make a vow to remain annonymous, changing history as little as possible. However, when the crew comes across the dying Lt. Commander Kusaka Takumi, XO. Kadomatsu's instincts to save lives takes over, changing the course of history more than he could've imagined. 西暦200X年の6月。日米新ガイドラインの下での海外派遣によりエクアドルへ向かう海上自衛隊の自衛艦隊のイージス艦みらいはミッドウェー沖合で突如嵐に巻き込まれ落雷を受ける。その直後からレーダーからの僚艦喪失、送受信機の故障ではない衛星通信の不通、突如の降雪という不可思議な現象に直面する。そして戦艦大和以下大日本帝国海軍連合艦隊に遭遇したことによりミッドウェー海戦直前の1942年6月4日の太平洋上にタイムスリップした事が判明する。 異常事態の中、みらい副長 角松洋介は、撃墜され水没しつつある零式水上観測機の後席から自ら救助した帝国海軍通信参謀 草加拓海少佐に未来世界の情報を公開したことから、みらいは徐々に変化してゆく歴史の流れに巻き込まれて行く。
