Overview
The Diclonius, a mutated homosapien that is said to be selected by God and will eventually become the destruction of mankind, possess two horns on their heads and have a "sixth sense" which gives them telekinetic abilities. Due to this dangerous power, they have been captured and isolated in laboratories by the government. Lucy, a young and psychotic Diclonius, manages to break free of her confines and brutally murders most of the guards in the laboratory where she is being held, only to be shot in the head as she makes her escape. She survives, falling off a cliff into the ocean and manages to drift along to a beach where two teenagers, Kouta and Yuka, discover her. Having lost her memories, she was named after the only thing that she can now say, "Nyuu," and the two allow her to stay at Kouta's home. 人間の遺伝子の突然変異によって生まれた側頭部の対となる2本の角とベクターと呼ばれる見えない腕の特殊な能力を持つ女性型ミュータント・二觭人（ディクロニウス、觭は「角奇」）。彼女らは人類を淘汰する可能性を持つとされ、離島の国立生態科学研究所に国家レベルでの極秘機密として隔離され、研究されている。 ある日、研究所に隔離されていたディクロニウスの少女・ルーシーは、警備員のスキをついて拘束を破り、研究所室長・蔵間の秘書・如月を含め警備員ら23人をわずか5分で殺害し、研究所からの脱走を試みる。海に飛び込む直前に頭部を対戦車用徹甲弾で撃たれるも、幸い軽傷で済んだルーシーは海へ投げ出される。 一方、大学に通うために親戚を頼って鎌倉にやってきた青年・コウタは、いとこのユカと共に由比ヶ浜を訪れた際、そこで浜辺に佇む全裸の少女を見つける。その少女は、海へ投げ出された後に由比ヶ浜に流れ着いたルーシーだった。 ルーシーは頭部への銃撃が元で記憶を失った上、人格が分裂して全く別の人格が発現していた。「にゅうにゅう」としかしゃべれなくなった彼女をにゅうと名付けたコウタとユカは、彼女が人類を滅亡させる存在であることを知らないまま、コウタが住むことになる楓荘に連れて行き、一緒に暮らすことになる。 その後、コウタ達は、義父から性的虐待を受けて家出していたマユや、ルーシー捕獲のため送り込まれ不要となったため処分対象となったディクロニウスのナナ、マユと行動を共にする犬わん太達と一緒に同居することになる。
