Overview
Tokimune Susumu has every reason to distrust the military and question orders. His sister has already died in the service of the Arandas military, and his secret reason for enlisting is to ferret out the truth behind her mysterious death. So, when a civilian convoy is in jeopardy and his own battle mech is destroyed, Susumu's all too ready to break ranks and jump into the cockpit of the experimental Argevollen. What he isn't expecting, however, is that activating the Argevollen conforms it to his mind alone. Now he's on the frontline of the ongoing meat-grinder that the war between Arandas and Ingelmia has become, and his only certain ally is an attractive civilian contractor whose reasons for being in the war are as convoluted as his own. 過去の大戦で使用された戦略兵器（SMM）の暴走で起きた大規模な環境・地軸の変動により航空機の使用ができなくなった世界。その惨事から数世紀近くが経った現在も、戦争は行われていた。 A.O.（世界暦）2015年。各国の軍では既存の陸上兵器の他に「トレイルクリーガー」という人型機動兵器が主力であり、長い歴史と腐敗の進む「アランダス連合王国」の独立第八部隊に所属する、ススム・トキムネもその操縦士の1人であった。アランダスと隣国の「インゲルミア諸国統合体」間の戦争が続く中、長年に渡って敵国の侵攻を防いできたアランダスの城塞「グレート・ウォール」がついに突破される。 そのような最中で、独立第八部隊はインゲルミア軍に追われる民間のトレーラーを発見する。それを見捨てようとする部隊の方針に憤りを感じたトキムネは一人飛び出し、乗機を失うもトレーラーに乗っていたエンジニアの女性ジェイミー・ハザフォードを保護する。そして、トキムネはジェイミーの提案でトレーラーが運んでいた新型トレイルクリーガー「アルジェヴォルン」へと乗り込む。 ジェイミーと試作機のアルジェヴォルンを加えた独立第八部隊は撤退戦を乗り切り、全員無事に帰還する。だが、初期設定により、アルジェヴォルンはトキムネとジェイミーにしか操縦・起動が出来なくなってしまった。ジェイミーはなんとか部隊を離れようとするも、アルジェヴォルンを開発した民間企業「キベルネス・マニファクチャリングカンパニー」から担当を続けるよう半ば強制的に言われ、その後も独立第八部隊を行動を共にする。 死んだ姉の真相を探そうとするトキムネ。文句を溢しながらも部隊に同行するジェイミー。アルジェヴォルンへの考えを巡らす独立第八部隊の隊長、サモンジ・ウキョウ。腐敗したアランダスの上層部。アルジェヴォルンと交戦したことからその情報を掴もうとするインゲルミア軍。そして得体の知れない企業、キベルネス・マニファクチャリングカンパニー。各々の思惑が交差する戦場は新たな局面を迎えることとなる。
