Overview

ハグル王国の工作員として、類まれなる変装技術と体術を駆使し数々の任務を完遂してきたクロエは、上司の裏切りを機に組織を脱走する。彼女は隣国アシュベリー王国の一般市民「ビクトリア」として、自身が望んでいた平穏な人生をやり直す計画を実行に移す。移住初日に身寄りのない少女ノンナを保護したビクトリアは、彼女を娘として育てることを決意し、工作員時代に培った語学力や知識を活かして歴史学者の助手や教師などの職を得る。その過程で第二王子などの重要人物と接点を持つことになり、組織の追っ手を退けながらも、新天地での生活基盤を確立していく。 それから5年の歳月が流れ、シェン国での研究生活を終えたビクトリア、ノンナ、そして夫となったジェフリーの一家はアシュベリー王国へ帰国する。平穏な日々の中、ビクトリアは希少な冒険小説『失われた王冠』に隠された暗号を解読し、それが実在する宝の場所を示していることを突き止める。家族の理解と後押しを受けた彼女は、自身の能力を肯定し、アシュベリー王国の秘密に迫る探索へと向かう。 その後、ビクトリアは暴漢に襲われていた女性を救出するが、その女性はアシュベリー王国の王太子妃デルフィーヌの影武者を務める予定の工作員であった。負傷した彼女の代役として、ビクトリアは自らの意志で一時的に工作員の任務を引き受ける。同時期にジェフリーは隣国との金鉱問題を巡る外交交渉に奔走し、成長したノンナもまた母の任務を補助するなど、家族それぞれが自身の役割を果たしながら、守るべき平穏な生活のために奔走する。
