20世紀初め、世界各地に突如怪獣が出現し始めた。人類は当初怪獣を駆逐することを試みたが、彼らの巨大な力を前にその試みを断念した。そして人類は怪獣を常に監視し分析することを目的とした組織、国連怪獣監視団 (Kaiju Watchers the League of Nations)、通称：KWLONs（クーロンズ）を結成した。不屈のリーダー海堂勇一郎を筆頭に、今日も怪獣科学のエキスパート達が、数百体にも及ぶ怪獣達と人類が共存出来る世界を模索し続ける。
