Overview

On an ordinary planet in the distant future. Humans have long been at war with the mechanical aristocrats called "Hyperion." This is the story of Drossel, a Hyperion and the daughter of the Duke von Flügel, and her butler Gedächtnis in the Tower of Tempest, isolated from the outside world. メルクール暦48650年。地球ともそうでないとも明言されない惑星において、4万8千年以上前にイルカや猿、鳥といった野生動物とそれを含む自然環境は壊滅し、人類は自らの統治をロボットに委ねていた。しかしロボットはやがて貴族化し人類はそれに抵抗を見せ始め、人類の軍隊とロボット貴族との戦争はすでに2万年に及んでいた。ドロッセルの父である故フリューゲル公爵は人類との共存を望みながら道半ばにして没する。残された一人娘ドロッセルはお屋敷のデータベースと執事ゲデヒトニスから、「人類とは、生命とは、そして貴族としての矜持と使命とはなにか」を学びつつある。しかしお屋敷の外に一歩も出たことのないドロッセルはそのどれにもはっきりとした答えを見つけることができない。
