Overview

The Gastrea virus spreads like wildfire, causing each infected host to rapidly mutate, gaining new powers and abilities with every stage of development, even while they continue to attack, kill and infect multiple new hosts. 西暦2021年。突如世界中に出現したウイルス性寄生生物「ガストレア」との戦いに敗北した人類は、人口の九割と国土の大半を喪い、ガストレアを退ける特殊な磁場を発生させる金属「バラニウム」で作られた巨大な壁「モノリス」を建築し、モノリスで囲われた都市「エリア」の中でガストレアから身を守りながら生活をしていた。時と共に世界情勢は変化し、2031年、日本に残された5つのエリアの一つ、「東京エリア」。モノリス内に侵入するガストレアの排除を業務とする「民間警備会社」（民警）の1つ、幼馴染である天童木更が経営する「天童民間警備会社」で働く里見蓮太郎は、大した仕事もなく極貧の生活を送っていた。ある日、珍しくやってきた仕事により通報を受けた部屋で、警官隊の死体の前に立つ不気味な仮面を付けた燕尾服の男に出会う。「世界を滅ぼすもの」と名乗った男は圧倒的な力で蓮太郎を撃破し姿を消した。数日後、東京を治める最高責任者である聖天子により数多の民警が招集され、東京を壊滅しようと目論む燕尾服の男こと蛭子影胤の計画を阻止する依頼が言い渡された。エリアを滅ぼす力を秘めた「七星の遺産」を巡り、蓮太郎は相棒かつイニシエーターである藍原延珠と共に、蛭子影胤との死戦を繰り広げる。そしてそんな戦いの最中、蓮太郎はガストレアという存在にまつわる謎、陰謀、そして自らの存在意義を追うことになる。
